Ruanbao Zhou is a professor of molecular microbiology, Department of Biology and Microbiology, South Dakota State University, USA. He developed genetically manipulated blue-green algae called cyanobacteria to produce an alcohol called linalool. He explained that linalool is a long-chain alcohol which has 10 carbon molecules; ethanol has only two carbon molecules. That difference translates to linalool having an energy density nearly identical to that of gasoline.
Synthetic Biology of N2-Fixing Cyanobacteria for Green Chemicals, Multi-Cellular Differentiation and Solar-Powered, Oxic N2-Fixing in Cyanobacteria, biofuels and microbial products, and Bacillus subtilis.
