Article Processing Charges (APC)

Boffin Access is dedicated to advancing Gold Open Access publishing to ensure that every article we publish is immediately, permanently, and freely accessible to readers across the globe.

As an independent publisher, Boffin Access does not depend on financial support from governments, institutions, or private entities. To sustain operations and deliver publishing excellence, we apply Article Processing Charges (APCs) to accepted manuscripts. These charges support the infrastructure, services, and innovations that make high-quality Open Access publishing possible.

Why APCs Are Essential

Although digital publishing reduces distribution costs, significant investments remain necessary in:

  • Editorial Management – Coordinating a rigorous and transparent peer-review process with international experts.
  • Technical Infrastructure – Operating a secure, modern publishing platform with long-term preservation systems.
  • Production Quality – Ensuring copyediting, formatting, plagiarism checks, and compliance with global indexing standards.
  • Post-Publication Services – Enhancing article visibility, monitoring citations, and providing meaningful metrics.

Through APCs, Boffin Access maintains a sustainable publishing model that benefits authors, readers, and the global research community.

Green vs. Gold Open Access

Open Access is implemented in two widely recognized forms:

  • Green Open Access (Self-Archiving): Authors deposit a version of their manuscript in repositories, often subject to embargoes or restrictions. Copyright usually rests with the publisher, limiting reuse without additional permissions.
  • Gold Open Access (Publisher-Hosted): The final peer-reviewed version is made freely available immediately upon publication. Authors retain copyright, typically under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, maximizing reuse and visibility.

Boffin Access is a Gold Open Access publisher. While we encourage self-archiving, we also ensure that the definitive versions of articles are hosted on our platform for centralized access and indexing in leading global repositories.

APC Policy

  • Fee Structure: APCs vary by journal and are charged only upon acceptance of a manuscript. There is no submission fee.
  • Payment Methods: Payments may be made securely via Boffin Access’s online portal or through direct transfer arranged with our editorial office.
  • Membership Program: Frequent contributors and institutional partners may benefit from membership options that offer reduced APCs.
  • Refund Policy: If an author withdraws a manuscript after payment, a minimal processing fee will be deducted and the balance refunded.

Our Commitment

At Boffin Access, APCs represent more than a publishing cost—they are an investment in:

  • Ensuring global visibility of research.
  • Guaranteeing permanent open access to knowledge.
  • Providing fair recognition for authors and reviewers.
  • Driving sustainable innovation in scholarly communication.
