Duncan Forbes

Biography:

Prof. Forbes career has included working at the Space Telescope Science Institute, University of California Santa Cruz and University of Birmingham before joining the faculty at Swinburne University in Melbourne. He has published over 250 research papers with over 12,000 citations mostly in the areas of observational extragalactic astronomy. This research has often used data from space telescopes, including Hubble, Spitzer, IRAF, WISE, XMM, Chandra, ROSAT. Prof. Forbes has previously been an Associate Editor of Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia (PASA).

Research Interests:

His research interests include galaxy formation and evolution, in particular the low surface brightness halos of giant elliptical galaxies, and the recently discovered ultra diffuse galaxies. He also studies the ancient globular cluster systems that surround all galaxy types for the unique insight that they provide.
