He studied Degree in Medicine (1980) - University of Coimbra. Master in Sports Medicine (1994) - University of Coimbra. Ph.D. in Internal Medicine (1999) - University of Coimbra. He is the Invited Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of Coimbra (FMUC), 1985-1999. He is the Coordinator of the 6th Year Degree in Medicine FMUC (2006-2010). He is the Invited Associate Professor at the University of Aveiro (2001-2007). He is a Graduate in Nutrition at the University of Southampton (1991). He is the Specialist in Internal Medicine (1990), Sports Medicine (1995). Team leader of the Emergency Service of HUC (1994 to 2007). He is an Elected President of the Portuguese Society of Atherosclerosis. He is the President of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine.
