Milan Toma


Dr. Toma has an extensive academic and research background spanning multiple countries and disciplines. He received his Ph.D. in Engineering Science from the Technical University of Lisbon in Portugal. His early career involved working as a project researcher at Altair Engineering in Paris, France, focusing on computational analysis of brain injuries.

Subsequently, Dr. Toma moved to Japan, where he held positions as a research assistant professor at Tokyo University and at the RIKEN research institute. During his tenure in Japan, he specialized in developing numerical algorithms for cardiovascular fluid-structure interaction simulations, contributing significantly to the field of biomedical engineering.

Following his time in Japan, Dr. Toma relocated to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he worked as a visiting researcher at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), focusing on computational combustion.

Currently, Dr. Toma serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), School of Engineering and Computing Sciences. His expertise spans computational mechanics, biomedical engineering, cardiovascular simulations, and computational combustion, reflecting his diverse research interests and international research experience.

Image processing, high-performance computing, computational mechanics/biomechanics, biomechanical/biomedical engineering, Trefftz elements, hydrated soft tissue, impact biomechanics, head and brain injuries, and cardiovascular fluid-structure interaction
