Dr. José Morfin currently holds an associate professor appointment in Department of Medicine at UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. José Morfín received his medical degree from UCLA in 2001 and subsequently completed an Internal Medicine-Primary Care Residency at UCSF in 2004. After residency, he returned to UC Davis and the Sacramento Valley to complete a fellowship in Nephrology in 2006 where he has transitioned to a faculty position. He has the strong interest in community outreach to underserved populations to improve health care delivery specifically in the areas of chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and diabetes. In addition, he is a promoter of patient self-care and empowerment which he believes is an effective means to improve clinical outcomes. In this regard, as an advisor, he works closely with patient advocacy groups in the Sacramento area and the National Kidney Foundation for the dissemination of kidney disease education for the public at large. He is the Medical Director of Home Dialysis Services at DCi in Sacramento, California and under his leadership, he was successfully able to launch a Home Hemodialysis program in 2009 which has maintained a sustained growth. Dr. José Morfín follows appropriately 100 patients on Hemodialysis of which close to 20% are on a home Hemodialysis therapy and has collaborated with multiple home Hemodialysis care organizations in the region to achieve high-quality outcomes. He is the author of many articles in internationally published reputed journals. He is passionate about the therapy and thus has been frequently invited to speak and share his knowledge of home Hemodialysis at national meetings.
